Ok haven't got the Sandtrooper finished but he is almost done. Coat of Vallejo polyurethane Matt varnish and then a coat of thinned down sand wash (water based). Once it's dry some of the wash will be scrubbed off together with some of the varnish to reveal clean but matt areas and clean glossy areas.

Also made an improvement to the spray booth by adding two LED lights in the top so I can still work as the light fades.

Ok paint on the speeder bike and a bit of weathering, should get the Sandtrooper finished today.

A hole in the lineup ready for Darth when he arrives.

Cheers Andy, Boba is on his way

Want to get another Sandtrooper and First order trooper, an IG-88 would go down great to stand with Boba. For those who don't know IG-88 look it up

I'll track down the R2 and R5 set, not sure on C3-PO though.

Any way the base for the scout and bike have been filled, cleaned up and primed, they'll dry overnight ready for the red edging tomorrow before I start on the earthy, forest floor look.

Hope this may help others, those that have got these kits will know that the paint guide is in Japanese and doesn't even give a paint code. I have managed to find a translation on the web for Darth, R2 & R5, Stormtrooper and Scout Trooper w/Speeder bike.

Darth

Scout & bike

Stormtrooper

R2 & R5

Knock at the door, then another trooper joins the party

Need to strip the bike back down and add some paint also need to do the base and trooper. The trooper will sit on the bike if you want.

well, for a 1/12 scale me, your best bet is a superman figure for the body with a frank spencer head!

i did have a look at the amazon site, and what a wallet buster it was, especially a kit of vaders tie fighter, that i have wanted for ages to sit in between my already built fine molds ties, and it seemed to be a reasonable price too.

Nice one Phil, so any idea where I can get a 1/12 scale Phil? There's a Scout trooper w/speeder bike and Darth on the way, Boba, R2&R5 and Captain Phasma will follow later along with Kylo Ren.
After building a couple, some of the decal areas can be painted before you assemble so you can do away with the decals.

i might just have a nosey around amazon, those bandai kits all look fantastic compared to the self assemble sound and light toys revell are putting out, the R2D2/R5D4 kit is one i would love to get my hands on in particular.

Mal I understand what your saying but in the photo below I don't think those marines heard about the spacing.

Then they are not on "patrol"? They are moving up to the front, I guess, but they still make a very good target like that! Imagine that you expect to contact the enemy at any moment. But you do have your proof of spacing, it just looks odd, to me It could be a reason why so many were killed?

the tank is making a path through the grass while the marines watch to the sides while on patrol.

If the Marines are on patrol, they would be between 5-10m/yds apart, unless the yanks take the "buddy" system far further than the Brits I get that that would make the base much longer but with the linear nature of it that might be a good thing? Also they would be scanning outwards, not looking at the man in front, which sort of defeats the object, and the M3 is doing all the looking up front A Jap hiding off to one side would give the reason for the turned heads, for those that don't get it?

Anyway the Stormtroopers have been reinforced, still some work to do, the Sandtrooper needs a sand wash and the riot stick needs to be finished off.

Now these guys need some support so I dug the 'old' Finemolds TIE In out of the stash.

Postie arrived with another Stormtrooper today so with paint on the First Order and build of the new arrival today has finished up with these guys. The new arrivals still require their decals.

Got a few parcels over the last week or two which may hint at what's next on the bench once the M3 and M4 are finished although I'm still waiting for the Cent turret to arrive, be quicker if I walked there and got it myself. Any way here's a teaser photo.

Now when I got home from work last night there was a parcel waiting for me, so while my food got cold and the TV played my programs that I wanted to watch in the background I sniped and pushed and this happened:

Paint is required for this one as the blaster needs parts too be white as does the riot stick thing, also a few decals to go on. This guy will be clean and just need to work out the base colour for him.

Thanks Paul, however there were no mine field signs in Guadalcanal just tall grass, palm trees and jungle plants, the tank is making a path through the grass while the marines watch to the sides while on patrol.

Hi Lucky,
Whereas normally we would place everything on a diagonal to give a natural assymetry...
This is actually a great compositional device if you are to funnel the field of view down to a small area.
Accordingly if I may suggest to you the addition of Japanese minefield marker signs,(if they existed), in order as to give a valid reason for the guys to walk in the track furrows.
Paul.

Thanks Paul.

Not much progress done this weekend on the Guadalcanal campaign build but here's a composition photo to show the lay out. The front of the dio is in front of the tank and that's where a name plate will go, the white tack tower is a stand in for the ordered BAR gunner.

Comments and suggestions welcome for a dio newb.

Calling my Stormtrooper finished, added some grime to the trooper and filled and painted the base plate to represent the floor of the Death Star. I've changed out the MG-34 sorry heavy blaster for the Sterling sorry blaster as I couldn't get the HB to be up across his chest as I wanted it.

I have another coming which will be done parade fashion, all spit and polish.

Hope you like him.

I'll try and get a better photo in the daylight tomorrow.

Love the Stormtrooper Lucky. Is he straight out of the box, and how long did he take to build?
Looking for the First Order trooper now lol.
Andy

Thanks Andy, yes straight out of the box no paint or glue the sprue gates are small and a swipe with a sanding stick and they are gone, just need to put on the decals. A dream to build just make sure the connectors click when you push the ends together and watch the knee joint as I put one on back to front then noticed and corrected. You also have the option of making him as a leftie and other hand options, choice of three guns, you can't see it but he has a blaster pistol in a holster.
I'll for sure be picking up a Sandtrooper, Scout trooper w/Speeder bike and Darth as soon as I can, may pick up another Stormtrooper to arm with a blaster and dirty up a bit. Now just need them to release a Clone trooper, TIE pilot and AT-AT driver/pilot. Oh Captain Phasma is released not month and Kylo Ren a little later in the year.

Oh being careful due to not being painted I think he took about an hour may be a little bit longer, there are a few decals left to apply mainly vents on the helmet and a few coloured buttons on his stomach.
