Small progress on the Slava class Moskva while I wait for the pe, the small sub beside the base is a Typ VII U-boot used for scale.

I received a Oscar class Kursk for my birthday from Andy B. so had to make a start on it, so here's where it's at. One set of missile tubes are masked as they will be open, now need to mask up the pale grey boot topping which doesn't follow the black/red demarcation.

Now just to confirm I'm mad, one of my favourite modern ships came out of the stash together with the WEM pe which I've had for a while. Lead ship of the Kirov class of large nuclear powered missile cruisers, the Kirov.
Small mod being made to the below flight deck hanger, the hanger can hold 3 however the kit would have it that it only holds one. I plan on having one in the hanger, one beside the hanger doors and one on the pad.

Oh this one's big

Nice choice of subjects Lucky.

I hope you are playing "You can keep your hat on"

Update on the Kirov, some of the superstructure has been painted and assembled, base and hull drilled and provisional mounts fitted, need to get some detail painting done on the superstructure sides before fixing down the level above. Also time to get the hull in the booth and apply the white boot topping and grey to the hull, bit of a mission as Kirov doesn't fit in the booth so will be done in stages.

Little 6" or 150mm rule for size infront, so you can gauge her size.

Small bit of progress on the Kirov with some of the superstructure painted and glued down, still a long way to go though. Anyway I've been asked how big the Kuznetsov (Russian aircraft carrier) is so here is a photo of:

Kuznetsov CV
Kirov CSGN
Moskva CCG
Sovremenny DDG
Kursk SSGN

Kuznetsov and Sovremenny are just placed together except the hull on Kuznetsov which is tack glued bow and stern.

Blimey, I'm more surprised at how the big the Kirov is compared to the Kuznetsov, normally aircraft carriers dwarf everything.
They are looking good so far, how are you getting these to all fit on your desk .

Told you the Kirov was big, I'm not surprised how big it is when you understand it carries 20 supersonic P-700 (SS-N-19 Shipwreck) cruise missiles which can be nuclear tipped, along with 12 S-300F (SA-10 Grumble) vertical launchers with 8 missiles in each (96 total), twin RPK-3 Metel (SS-N-14 Silex) anti submarine missile launcher with reloads plus it's 8 AK-630M CIWS, two 100mm naval gun turrets, various anti-sub/torpedo rockets, pair of pop up SA-8 Gecko launchers, decoy systems, 10 21-inch torpedo tubes and a hanger for 5 Ka-27 Helix.
The main role of the class was to take out the US carrier fleets.

Anyway I'll be getting another later variant of the class with different superstructure, weapon and radar fit.

As for fitting on the desk that's easy, they don't
Sovremenny is back in it's box, Kirov is in front of the TV and the Kuznetsov flight deck is back in it's box while the hull is placed out of the way but in sight so as to keep me working on the Kirov and Moskva. Oh there is also a 'small' resin Steregushchy Corvette but I didn't include that in the photo and two Udalay class anti sub destroyers on order.

Can I get these finished for Telford?

Knowing the ships are to far away from being finished for this years show I thought what can I build? So these have all been started at or since the Farnborough show in September.
I've been bitten by the Russian/Soviet bug Ships, subs, armour and aircraft.

Trumpy SU-152 late
Dragon T-34/76 mod 41' converted into a T-34/57 "Exterminator"
Miniart T-70M

The SU-152 I'm having a go at pre-shading and zenith lighting. All have replacement barrels with the SU & T-70 both also receiving Masterclub resin tracklinks.

Sorry Mal that should be Zenithal lighting.

Here's a guide to the different techniques, top is modulation, middle spot panel and bottom is Zenithal.

So all three of those techniques are the same, apart from lightening the colour in slightly different places? So why "Zenithal" and not one of the others (if there really is a difference?)

I'm wondering if I should do something similar on my Firefly?

Thanks go to Mal the mask, Imperial symbols added to the Star destroyer bases.
I was going to do them black however I went with a matt varnish on the mirror red base, think it looks pretty good.

Close up

Now something else is in the booth, it's Soviet!
T-62 ERA mod 1962 from Trumpeter only extra is a RB turned barrel, turret is still under construction.

Bit of an update on the T-62, main hull now base painted in post war Russian green, couple of wheels finished the others are still in the spray booth, turret now close to being finished and one side skirt done. Still need to drill the other side skirt and fit all the ERA plus a bit of pe to be fitted to the turret.

You'll notice a ERA block missing near the bottom of the photo. This is where Trumpeter have messed up the part numbers and this block has already been used on the hull front, so now I need to find which block will be left once all the rest are in place.

More tomorrow, finish off the wheels and turret, then the tracks

Looks good, will it be ready for Telford.
Fitting all those blocks looks a nightmare?

Doubt it, although the tank it self will be done the tracks will take some time longer, tempted to get some AM workable tracks for it. The ERA blocks are ok to fit once you get a system going they just take time as each top and bottom support is different and the top and bottom blocks are different.

Thanks Mal.

While waiting for some track links to arrive for my Soviet armour and with all the talk of the new tool Tiger II's from Takom and Meng, I dug out an old Dragon kit of a late Tiger II which doesn't require zimmerit.

So with a bit more still to do and two of the figures which came with the kit here it is.

Happy New year to you guys and anybody else looking in.

No updates for now as I'm working the night shifts, should be able to do a bit tomorrow and Tuesday and get it ready for a primer coat.
Going to go with the Dragon 'Magic tracks' on this one I think, well at least give them a go.

The AM metal tracks (Masterclub) for the Russian/Soviet armour should be here for the end of the week as well as some resin decal Zimmerit for the other Dragon Tiger II which I've not started. There's also a Tamiya Tiger I lurking in the background.

What was the theme for our Telford build 2017? Animals Couple of Tigers and an animal hunter (SU-152)
Oh no that wasn't it
