The Bulldogs Remember

Introduction
At Scale Model World 2014 over the weekend of the 8-9th November, we took the theme 'Remembrance' for our display table.

This was thought to be fitting for the occasion; not only because of the 100th anniversary of WW1, but the show is always held over the annual Remembrance day weekend.
The Display
A splendid array of models was put forward representing all that Kitmakers would wish to see, from scratch built and converted kits, of armour, wheeled vehicles, aircraft, ships and submarines, and of course figures.

We mustered 17 club members assembling from across the whole of the UK and all displaying their beautifully detailed work, which made for a very convivial weekend both, at the show itself and in the evening too thanks to good food and great company.

New friends were made, new members welcomed, and older friendships re-enforced thanks to plentiful supplies of tea coffee, cake and smiles, Some members of our 'modelling family' made the weekend into a broader event by local visits to Coventry and RAF Cosford museums, either side of the show!

Our centrepiece was a Royal British Legion commemorative wreath with our club badge set in the centre, and other material ephemera such as cigarette cards, letters, posters and poppies were scattered between and under the display models to complete the table dressing.

Many positive comments were passed on to the club members from show visitors who appreciated the thought and reasoning behind our choice.
Remembrance
On the following Tuesday, at 11AM 11th November the wreath was then laid, by Peedee on behalf of the club members, at the Cenotaph in Liverpool were it will lie in silent appreciation of the all the fallen in war, civilian and serving forces across the ages.
The Civil ceremony was very touching.

Following the traditional and respectful 2min silence, as the whole city stopped and you could truly hear a pin drop, local schoolchildren performed a medley of wartime songs beloved of the troops, instead of the more sombre service with Hymns of the Armistice Parade on the Sunday before.
Next Year
We now look forward to next year’s show at Telford. With it being the 10th year we have been a IPMS (UK) Branch and also the 10th year of displaying at Scale Model World, feel welcome to pop along say and and join in our birthday party before and on the day.
