I purchased a Revell 1:25 ford "Hot Rod" at Telford, the idea is to do a Rusted up abandoned and old paintjob.

It's been started.

OK. Got the base rust colour on the body. If interested it's the Lifecolor Rust and Dust set. Really good paint, and all the colours are available outwith the set.

20 minutes later of water and stabbing with a short bristle brush....

This is underneath the car so i'm not that fussed if it's not perfect, but it's not looking too bad.

OK, so no pictures between the rust and black, so what happens? I guess you applied the "hairspray" but which hairspray do you use? I need to try this method on the collector rings of a Beaufighter. I don't know though how long to wait after the hairspray is applied. I have some Treseme, which is apparently the one to use, and I will be decanting it to let it de-gas. I also don't know how long do you wait before doing the chipping? do you wait until the top colour is completely dry or do you start the process as early as you can?

I Painted the rust colour on Saturday, left overnight to cure, then sprayed with hairspray Sunday AM. I did use Treseme, but only because that is what Donna bought me to stop me pinching hers.

Left hairspray for about 20 mins to dry, then sprayed with Tamiya Semi Gloss Black. Left this the length of the Scotland France rugby game, then attacked it with water and the cut off brush in the photos. A little bit of cut off cocktail stick used as well.

This technique works better with matt paint, it "Takes" the water better, lots of water needed, but the effect seen was no more than 20mins work.

I'll do more photos when i do the car body. This was more of a trial as it's been a while since i did this.

If you look at the pump truck and pallet in the Gun Trucks thread, the same technique was used there, but matt paint over steel underneath.

Cool, that's about what I figured. I have been told by Jamie Hago that it is the reaction of the top coat and the water with the hair spray that makes this work. So I guess if you leave the hair spray too long to dry there won't be any reaction? I am also assured that this works with MR Paint, which is similar to Tamiya paint but I guess that it won't work with enamels?

My problem is that I want to use the technique on WWII aircraft (Spitfire wing fairing which gets well worn by pilot and ground crew), But there will be some time between the paint over the hair spray going on and the painting of the camo colours being finished. I will have to experiment.

Well i had another go tonight, and more under colour revealed - check the cross members, especially the large one in the middle.

Paint has been on for at least 3 days at this point.

Sorry pic is upside down

Looking really good. Love the look of the Lifecolor rust, I will have too get a set, as I have always wanted to rust a Beetle up.
Did you spray it on, if so is it sprayable straight out of the bottle?

Sprays straight out of the bottle or can be thinned.

You can buy the colours separately also. It's their mimitec range.

I'll post the colours on here later tonight.
