a little bit later than i anticipated but ive been able to spend some quality modelling time at the bench, and actually around the bench having a bit of a tidy up and re-jig in the man cave.

i've just noticed how late it is now, so heres a quick run through of what im up to-

airfix dornier 17E

a bit of classic airfix plastic from 1971, originally started by me for the ancient airfix assemblers campaign.

this is more of a restoration, its the david brown tractor from the airfix stirling kit, painted and weathered, with a little bit of scratch building.

old tool airfix 109E, that will be finished as yellow 9, shame it wasn't yellow 10 but mal already had that covered at telford!

theres one more thing i'm working on, but i'll leave that for now, or i might start a separate thread for it, its teasered in a couple of the above pics though!

*edit* the retro sf minion is plainly in view in the second pic!

Nice one Phil, I should do a similar thread Do your Bf109 as yellow ten, if you like, but it didn't ware a yellow nose, neither did yellow 11, but I'm not sure about yellow 9.

I do like the idea of modelling a Minion

Hahahaahaha

Great stuff on the bench there Phil

Minions everywhere would be great on the stand next year.

Not a theme as such but it would look good

funny you should say that mal!
i actually have had a photo of yellow 9 since about august, which you would think answers the question of the yellow nose, of course its not that simple!
heres the photo -

its only after reading your post that i noticed although the cowling is off, the spinner certainly isn't yellow and assuming the 9 is yellow, it doesn't look the same colour as the small bit of cowling under the spinner.

that said, i may well leave it yellow because it looks cool! i actually have to re spray the blue anyway because i had been using yellow in my airbrush on the minion, didn't quite clean it all out, so the blue has been tinted a grayish green where i started, gradually coming back to the blue it should be!

on the subject of shank! the minion, its looking good for finishing before telford 2016!

i picked up the R2-bannana one this year, so thats two from me for minionfest '16

and i nearly forgot the other lump of resin I'm mucking about with, the heritage models 1/72 vigilant, I'm building for the local airfield campaign.

Phil, like the Vigilant, I've got their 1/48 version and do keep looking at it

Shank looks good, I'll have to get some of my minions finished for Minionfest 2016

I do know that yellow 10 and 11 were shot down before the introduction of the yellow nose, so yellow 9 might have had one at some point, if it too wasn't shot down. I did nearly paint the nose yellow on mine because, as you say, it looks cool

yellow 9 was shot down on 15 november 1940, both the magazine and the instructions say that it was based at caffiers France in august 1940, but in the case of the magazine no indication exactly when the photo was taken, while the kit instructions seem to infer that it carried a yellow nose in august, which it may not have.

I'm not sure when the yellow nose was introduced but certainly during the battle of Britain. So, if it survived until November, it would have worn a yellow nose at some time?

Done a bit of internet based research, and it looks like the yellow I.d. Markings came in mid August so the yellow can stay.
Got the blue resprayed yesterday, just need to get the spine colours brought a little further down the fuselage, then its decal time!
