Combined Ops 2011

Invicta Military Preservation Society “Combined ops” Day – Headcorn Aerodrome, 14/08/11
Took a visit to the above show, with the attraction of plenty of military vehicles and a selection of Aircraft flyby's.
Highlights of the aircraft were a flyby (en route to Eastbourne airborne) of a PR Spitfire and a Hurricane of the BBMF, a solo display by a Hurricane, and the promise of a flyby by the Red Arrows again en route to Eastbourne. Unfortunately, due to the nature of operations at Headcorn the sky was full of skydivers at the time the Reds were due and they had to no show, they were spotted on return, but the Turbulent Barnstorming display was on, so they passed on.
If ever you get a chance to see the turbulents do go, they do balloon popping and low level flying, see the photos in the style of the 1920's American Barnstormers. The title photo of the yellow balloon was popped by the red aircraft in the next picture, one of the most amazing piece's of flying I have seen.
A reasonable selection of preserved vehicles were on display, the Scammell being a favourite of mine, along with the heavy LaWard France wrecker.
It's not on the scale of the War and Peace show, but well worth a visit if in the area.
