Herpa releases a detailed Skoda 1000 MB, which was manufactured in the Czech Republic from 1964-1968. The Skoda 1000M model is very well reproduced, a very impressive model with good plastic detail and great finishing. It has a detailed underbody, lenses for driving lamps, and a detailed interior which is visible through the clear windows. Paint and printing is exceptional.

Škoda Auto , more commonly known as Škoda, is an automobile manufacturer based in the Czech Republic. Škoda became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in 2000. Škoda Works was established as an arms manufacturer in 1859.

The origins of what became Škoda Auto go back to the early 1890s where, like many long-established car manufacturers, a company started out manufacturing bicycles. The first new
Slavia motorcycle made its debut in 1899.* Skoda was forced to make weapons for the Nazis during World War Two. When, by July 1945, the Mladá Boleslav factory had been reconstructed, production of Škoda's first post-World War II car, the 1101 series began. It was essentially an updated version of the pre-World War II Škoda Popular. Škoda retained a good reputation until the 1960s, producing models such as the Škoda 440 Spartak, 445 Octavia, Felicia and Škoda 1000 MB.**

Herpa currently catalogues two Skoda models, 75 models for their Nostalgia of GDR series, and 185 Vintage Car models. Your Herpa model Skoda 1000M is fully assembled and secured in a form fitted cradle that is held inside a light plastic tab opening box, adorned with a red Herpa label.

This is an impressive model even for Herpa! If you can spot any flaws in the molding or assembly, please tell me. The exterior features fine recessed lines for doors, hoods and panels. Decorative items on the bumpers and grille are included. Underneath is an underbody with a little more than basic molded detailed.

Nice tread detail adorns the rubber/soft plastic tires.

The windshield is free of distortion. You can see the nice interior.

Individual clear lenses simulate the headlamps. Tail lamps and turn signals are represented with tinted lenses.

Windshield wipers are part of the chrome combing around the windshield. Factory applied separate side view mirrors are installed.

Inside of the cabin is detail almost worth popping the body off for: tan front seats and back bench seat, the steering wheel, console, stick, rear view mirror, and dashboard detailing. All is easy to see through the clear windows.

Livery and Finish

The model and components are both molded in color and painted. The model is offered in rot / red. Most impressive are all of the chrome accents. These are sharply applied; under magnification you can see some flaws if you really want to be nit-picky, yet you can’t see it unless you want to. Herpa replicates Skoda emblems and heralds. Although they are not legible they are sharply printed, and not decals. Herpa does not use decals. The paint is thin, glass-smooth, and opaque.

It has a detailed underbody, lenses for driving lamps, and a detailed interior which is visible through the clear windows. Paint and printing is exceptional. I think the only minor point is that some of the underbody detail is simplified. Overall I happily recommend this model for your railroad layout, diorama, or collection!

I'm a professional pilot with a degree in art. My first model was an AMT semi dump truck. Then Monogram's Lunar Lander right after the lunar landing. Next, Revell's 1/32 Bf-109G...cried havoc and released the dogs of modeling! My interests--if built before 1900, or after 1955, then I proba...
